Frequently asked questions
The questions that come up most often, and what to check in each case.
The module does not show on my page
- Open the module on its own with the "Preview" button in its editor. If it shows there, the module is fine: the problem comes from the page.
- Check the page's address. It must be on the domain registered for the site, on one of its subdomains, or on an address added under "Allowed addresses" (the site's "Settings" screen). Elsewhere, the browser refuses to display the frame. See Where the module shows.
- Check in the published page's source code that both lines are present and intact: some editors strip
<script>tags. - If you are looking at your platform's editor preview, publish the page instead and open it at its real address.
The frame shows a message instead of the module
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| This module is no longer connected to this site. | Add the module again in the site's "Modules" screen. Your settings and your replies are still there. |
| No form is ready on this site yet. | The form is offline, or it was deleted. Open it: the "More" menu puts it back live. If it was deleted, paste the code from the "Embed" tab of a form that exists. The quiz and the reactions have the same message, in their name. |
| This form has no field yet. | Add at least one field in the editor, then save. A quiz without a question shows a similar message. |
If the value of data-bl or data-cle is wrong, the frame stays empty in your page. Copy the code again from your account: data-bl must be the module's name, such as formulaire, quiz or reactions, and the key may have been damaged while pasting. A closed account also switches off its sites.
The "Add" button does not respond
Modules open once the site is verified, and that is the only condition. Go through the site's "Ownership" screen (see Proving the site is yours).
Verification fails
- File: open
https://your-domain/bonjour-la-toile.txtin your browser. It must show your code and nothing else. If it shows an error page, the file is not at the root, or it was renamed. - Tag: it must be in the home page of the registered domain, not on another page. A cache on your site may serve an old version of the page for a while.
- DNS: propagation sometimes takes an hour. Check the name (
_bonjourlatoile) and that the value is exactly the code. - If you drew a new code, the old proof is worth nothing anymore: set it again with the new one.
I am not getting email notices
- Check the "Email me when a reply arrives" box in the form's settings, and the "Email notices" box in Account settings. Both must be checked.
- At most one notice goes out per hour and per site: further replies within the same hour trigger none.
- A reply filed as spam triggers no notice. Look at the "Spam" tab of My inbox.
- Notices exist for forms only, not for quizzes or reactions.
A visitor says their submission is refused
- "The submission could not be verified": the page stayed open for more than two hours, or the form was sent less than three seconds after it was displayed. Reloading the page is enough.
- "A lot of submissions at once": the rate limit is reached. They have to wait an hour.
- A message under a field: the value is not acceptable (a malformed email address, a required field left empty). What was typed is kept.
My site answers on several addresses
Add the other addresses under "Allowed addresses", in the site's "Settings" screen, separated by commas. The registered domain's subdomains are already allowed.
I want to change a site's domain
In the site's "Settings" screen, the "Domain" block replaces it. The site goes back to "To verify" while you set the proof on the new address: see Changing domain. If you only want a module to also show elsewhere, add the address under "Allowed addresses", without changing domain.
I want to delete a site
At the bottom of the site's "Settings" screen, "Delete this site" asks you to type its domain to confirm. Everything goes with it, for good: its modules, its forms and their replies, its quizzes and their entries, its palettes and their counters. Your styles stay: they belong to your account.
Remove, take offline, delete: what is the difference?
- Removing a module from a site unplugs it: it stops showing, but everything stays in place, ready to be plugged back in.
- Taking offline (the object's "More" menu) hides one specific form, quiz or palette, without losing anything.
- Deleting is final. For a quiz or a palette, the results go with it. For a form, the replies stay in My inbox.
- Deleting a site erases everything it holds, form replies included.
My key is visible in my source code: is that a problem?
No. The public key identifies your site and gives access to nothing else. Someone copying it onto their own site would get nothing: the browser refuses to display your modules outside your allowed domains.
