Reviews

The Reviews module collects what your customers think of you, on your own site. You read every review before it goes live, you reply in public, and the average keeps itself up to date.

What a customer leaves

A rating from one to five stars, a few words (a title, if they want), their name and their email address. On your site, their name appears shortened: "Marie Laroche" becomes "Marie L." Their address is never shown: it helps you recognize a real customer, and it keeps the same person from leaving two reviews.

Moderation

By default, a review waits for you in the "Reviews" tab, "To read" queue, and an email lets you know (once an hour at most). You publish it, or you set it aside for one of these four reasons:

  • abusive or hateful;
  • off topic;
  • personal information (a last name, a phone number);
  • a fake review, or advertising.

A negative review is not set aside: it gets a reply. An average made of good reviews only would mislead your visitors, and in the United States the FTC has banned it since 2024. A review set aside goes back to "To read" in one click.

In the "Settings" tab, you can also publish reviews without waiting: they appear right away, and you take them down afterwards if one breaks a rule. Under the form, your visitors see whether their review will be read before being published.

Your replies

Under a published review, write your reply: it shows under the review, signed with your site's name, or the one you choose in the settings ("The Corner Coffee Shop"). Clear it to remove it.

What your visitors see

The average and its breakdown by rating, then the reviews from newest to oldest, ten per page, and the "Leave a review" button. Close the collection in the settings: the reviews stay shown, without the button.

What about Google?

The reviews are described for search engines (the average rating and each review). But Google does not show stars in its results for reviews a business publishes on its own site: they are there to convince your visitors, not to climb the rankings. For stars in Google, that is your Google Business profile.
